“Hopefully, some of you were also at the SPUR lunchtime presentation by Hines about the Transit Tower. One exciting potential they mentioned was linking some of the other surrounding buildings to the City Park on top of the transit center itself.”
UPDATE (12/5): And once again, Jamie delivers (and teases us with mention of a “desired” BART connection).
∙ Event: In depth look at the Transit Center tower [SPUR]
∙ Hines And Pelli Clarke Pelli Bid The Most (And Get The Transbay Nod) [SocketSite]
Some highlights…
– The speaker confirmed that the box and foundation on the lowest level will be built to provide rail services (Caltrain, high speed, whatever), even if the funding and project start date to bring rail to the new Transbay Transit Center is Phase II and to be determined.
– There is a desire to build a connection with either the Montgomery or Embarcadero BART station.
– Hines hopes to have a restaurant a la Tavern on the Green that is on the same level as the City Park… connecting the Tower and the City Park with that restaurant to greet folks entering the tower.
– The tower has its own entitlement process, separate from the Transbay Transit Center. God help them.
– Someone asked about the possibility of the other high-rise buildings going up around that area possible connecting to the City Park – the Hines SVP said he thinks that’s a great idea.
That is good to hear about the connector to either of the BART stations. That is one thing that has always puzzled me about the Transbay location. Connector like Disneyland People Mover, moving sidewalks, hoverboard lanes, or ?? BTW, thanks for all your updates.
I didn’t hear particulars about the connection. I’d recommend attending the Transbay JPA Citizens Advisory Committee meeting on December 11th where this is a discussion item on the agenda(item 5 below).
