Having been on the market for $24.9 million in 2009, the asking price for the nearly 14,000-square-foot Tiburon mansion at 185 Gilmartin Drive, from which Rebecca and Terry Solomon bilked investors out of $18 million, has just been reduced to $12.9 million.
The mansion, which the couple was renting with funds they were supposed to be investing in diamonds and a Chinese telecommunications company, was raided by the FBI back in 2007 and the couple was subsequently sentenced to over seven years in federal prison.
In addition to the newly-refinished main residence, the 1.4 acre property includes a two-level guest house, a one-bedroom au pair apartment, a pool, tennis court, and a four-car garage and two motor courts.
Prior to being rented to the Solomons, the property was owned by Peter Kiritchenko, a Ukrainian businessman who was arrested at the home on fraud charges in 1999.
And prior to this last reduction, 185 Gilmartin Drive had been on the market for 211 days at $15 million.
Not simply bloat & excess, but *tasteless* bloat & excess. Diana Vreeland: “It’s not bad taste I object to, it’s no taste.”
Before I even got to your comment, I was thinking the same thing. If I had to draw a generic mansion, this is what I would draw. It’s so inoffensive that it’s offensive.
The Kardashians and Kanye would feel right at home.
I’d spend a lot of time in the wine cellar just to get away from all the soffits.
I don’t think it’s that bad. With some renovations, I think it would be just fine.
The proportions are good. There’s too much hardscape on the outside and, frankly, too little decoration/detailing/plasterwork/woodwork on the inside. It’s a soffit-y blank canvas.
Meh, not my style. I’d rather spend 1/3 of this for that funky Shinto pad in Bolinas.
Agreed. Feo. Not even worth starting a Kickstarter.
Wow, what a lineup of past tenants….I’d say the place is tainted all right.
I can’t believe the negativity. Who wouldn’t want his and her motor courts?
The prior owner was quite famous with Tiburon’s residents because he requested to put in a shooting range in his basement.
It has a lot of potential for the right buyer. The tennis court would have to go.
the property was owned by Peter Kiritchenko, a Ukrainian businessman who was arrested at the home on fraud charges in 1999, now what is he up to…another monstrosity.
UPDATE: The list price for 185 Gilmartin Drive has just been reduced another $400,000, now asking $12.5 million for the home which was on the market for $24.9 million in 2009.
