Decommissioned in 1994, the former Mission Police Station and jail at 1240 Valencia Street, between 23rd and 24th, was sold to a private party for $560,000 in March of 1997.
Measuring a little over 8,000 square feet, the concrete and steel building has since been converted to a small office space with a rather large “accessory dwelling unit” and studio, with big rear patio/parking pad/garden/yard which stretches to San Jose Avenue behind.
And touting the re-development potential for the 11,774-square-foot lot, which is zoned for development up to 55 feet in height, the property is now back on the market with a $8.395 million price tag and “offers due” on July 31 at noon.

That is the quirkiest Temple of Bathing ever.
Nice to see an artist’s studio actually being used to create art.
Glad the cops moved down to 17th/Valencia and put in a parking lot. The block behind this old station house was the parking lot. Cars double parked and parked on the sidewalks everywhere – every day. I called Parking and Traffic once to report all the illegally parked cars. They wanted make, model, plate #. I had a list and got about 4 or 5 rattled off when I was asked for the location. When I said San Jose Ave between 22nd and 23rd whoever I was talking to started laughing. She said she would take the rest of my info down and send it to dispatch but told me not to expect anything to happen. She was right.
UPDATE: Former Misison Police Station and Jail Has (Finally) Sold
