Designed by the late Goodwin Steinberg and built atop a 48-acre plot of former dairy land in Los Altos Hills, back in 1987, the nearly 9,000 square foot home and surrounding estate at 28011 Elena Road hit the market for the first time in 2012, priced at $50 million, but never traded hands.

In addition to the contemporary five, six or seven bedroom home, the gated Fenwick estate is outfitted with an outdoor tennis court, mature gardens and a grotto pool and spa with hilltop views.

And now noting that the property could be subdivided, “into 11 separate parcels each supporting the luxury lifestyle consistent with Los Altos Hills,” the estate is now back on the market with a slightly reduced $30 million price tag.

  1. 48ac is large though there’s only one prime flat spot on that parcel and it is occupied by this house. Despite its dated finishes, I like the house. It seems warm, open, and a pleasant home to live in.

  2. That living room is a stunner. Love Goody Steinberg residences. Gardens need attention, but the interior is high style mid-century. IMHO

    1. The interior was designed by my mentor, Bob Miller of Miller Designs in Woodside. I agree, it is perfection. Bob was an incredible person who designed amazing interiors all over the Peninsula. It was the first (very fornuate) project I worked on in my career. The team assembled for this house was superlative with Steinberg, Miller and Michael Souter of Luminae Souter providing lighting design. Far better photos exist online of this residence than were utilized here.

  3. The house has a fantastic layout….just needs a crew with sledge hammers.

The kitchen, for example. Rearranged it would be a fantastic, well lit space but that apartment building sized fan/cabinet structure has to go

  4. UPDATE: With around 44 of the aforementioned 48 acres having been carved out of the original offering, 28011 Elena Road has just been re-listed with a further reduced $10.8 million list price on a 4.2-acre lot.
