As we wrote when we first reported the record breaking sale of 152 Elsie last week, “the quiet sale of another Bernal Heights home which was never officially on the market is poised to blow away the $2.3 million record.”

And this afternoon, the sale of 171 Ripley was officially added to the MLS, “for comp purposes only,” with a record setting sale price of $3 million.  Measuring 2,313 square feet, that’s roughly $1,350 per square foot for the architect’s home which is faced in recycled copper and known to some as “the copper house.”

Inside, the kitchen counters are marinace granite, while the floors are recycled Southern Pine and the ceilings, even in the garage, are vertical grain Douglas Fir.

The three-level home was designed with three bedrooms, three baths and dramatic city views.  And in terms of parking, there’s a three-car garage with slate flooring, laundry and work space:

The seller was an architect at Gensler for over 30 years, and the firm’s President and CEO for over a decade.  And no, the buyers aren’t “techies” nor are they from overseas.

  1. UPDATE: The seller was an architect at Gensler for over 30 years, and the firm’s President and CEO for over a decade. And no, the buyers aren’t “techies” nor are they from overseas.

          1. Could it be Ric Giardina, the guy who dreamed up the “Intel Inside” slogan? Though he worked as an attorney for Intel, he’s definitely not a techie. And his current line of business is decidedly not technical.

If Ric bought this place then good for him. He’s a nice hard working guy and deserves it.

  2. Does anyone know who designed the couch/chairs in the living area? The entire place is phenomenal, but I want that furniture.

    1. I thought no one was allowed to criticize a property on this site without making very specific, objective observations. I guess that’s just everyone else.

  3. No comments on this being just up the hill from the drug dealers giving passerbys the nasty glare at Folsom and Cesar Chavez?

    1. First, there’s no drug dealers on Folsom and CC. Second, if there were, they wouldn’t be giving people the ‘nasty glare’, they’d be trying to sell them drugs.
