1717 17th Street Site
As plugged-in people know, the three existing buildings on 17th Street between De Haro and Carolina are slated to be razed with two mirror image mixed-use buildings yielding 7,000 square feet of ground floor PDR, 8,000 square feet of commercial/retail, 41 residential units and 58 below-grade parking spaces proposed to rise in their place.
From a plugged-in tipster this weekend:

Just walked past this address where there is some sort of “Occupy”
style protest in progress… I gather (strictly from word of mouth) that there are either squatters or tenants in the process of being evicted.

Apparently there was a three-man band playing on the roof (à la on the Titanic). And according to our tipster, the band wasn’t too bad.

  1. The diagonal parking lot is on the former ROW of the Western Pacific Railroad. The rail line went from a yard at 7th and Brannan, through a tunnel underneath Potrero Hill. The north portal is at 18th and Wisconsin. The south portal was at 22nd and Texas.

  2. This is all well and good but if they start talking about razing the Anchor Brewery I’m getting one of those V-for-Vendetta masks.

  3. Anchor recently change hands after decades of ownership by Fritz Maytag. The new owners plan to expand operations. So it would not be too surprising if Anchor were to move out of their Potrero location in the next decade.
