The model Eichler Dwelling at 28 Arcangel Way in San Rafael has sold for $1,415,000 or $780 per finished square foot.

As we first reported when the property hit the market listed for $1,150,000 last month, the home has been preserved in pristine condition since being built for the Joseph Eichler development in 1960, with its original kitchen cabinetry, exposed brick fireplace and Philippine mahogany walls in place.

But the home has been respectfully upgraded as well, with new tile flooring, an insulated foam roof, a new boiler and a re-done laundry room.

No official word on whether or not the new buyer is planning to maintain the home as an Eichler showpiece or is more aligned with the thoughts of the agent who toured the home and noted: “Will benefit from cosmetic upgrades to kitchen & bathrooms, but the bones…are solid.”

Not really. The entire ceiling which was originally natural wood – a signature Eichler detail – has been whited out.

    1. Yes, unfortunate that the T&G redwood ceiling has been painted rather than maintaining its (likely dune gray) stain. The beams should also be a contrasting color (in this case dark).
