1100 Broadway, Oakland

It’s across the bay (Oakland) and it’s not residential (commercial), but we’re suckers for “Green” buildings (no, not the color) and interesting animations.

When complete, 1100 Broadway will rise 20-stories over the 12th Street/City Center Bart Station, will renovate and incorporate the historic Key System Building next door (without looking like a schlocky addition), and will provide 310,000 square feet of office space along with 10,000 square feet of ground floor retail.

  1. It looks really nice, but no patios or roof deck. With Oakland’s housing market in the can these will have to be nicely done and hitting good price points or they will end up stinking up the market even more. They should be able to make room for more than a half dozen street trees as well. All that exposed hardscaping is going to be nasty on hot days.
[Editor’s Note: Once again, “it’s not residential” (and there is a Green roof garden atop the Key building – check out “Green Building Features” on the site).]

  2. This will be a great addition to all that’s going on in downtown Oakland, although I heard the developer won’t build it until they secure a tenant, which could be challenging in today’s market.

  3. Is it just me or does the rendering have the sunlight angle all wrong ? It appears as if the sun in the northern sky judging from the angle of the shadow across the Key Building. That’s impossible in the northern hemishphere.
Did Oakland move to New Zealand or something ?
badlydrawnbear – the green roof is on the Key Building, not this new building.

  4. Wow, if I had known that you were interesed in office projects, I would have sent you rendeings and information for this project months ago. In fact we’ve discused this building and shared renderings at skyscraperpage.com. Go there into the san francisco section and see rendings of the 500 and 400 foot office towers planned for downtown oakland near lake merrit or simply go to this link.

[Editor’s Note: Always error on the side of tipping us off too often (especially when it concerns new construction and renderings).]
