Purchased for $2,900,000 in 2010, the 2,955 square foot Telegraph Hill penthouse atop 1960 Grant Avenue has since been completely remodeled and is about to be listed for $6,250,000, or just over $2,100 per “bespoke” square foot.

The new kitchen features imported walnut cabinets accented by slabs of Calacutto D’Oro marble. The custom hood of white Venetian plaster sits above an oversized Wolf Range. And the oval center island features storage, seating and an inset walnut chopping block while mirrored tile backsplashes project Bay views and light into the cooking space:

The penthouse unit number seventeen is outfitted with three bedrooms, three and one-half baths, and seven outdoor terraces across three levels of living space.

  1. “an inset walnut chopping block”… that will never, ever be used!
And “white Venetian plaster” for the hood – really? It’s a vent hood. You’re going to want to paint it (if it’s not stainless steel) because it’s going to get messy, and trust me if it’s bare plaster it ain’t gonna stay white for long. And if it’s painted – who cares is it’s “Venetian plaster”.
(Oh never mind – taking into account my first comment, the cooker will likely never be used either…)
Such a ridiculous waste of resources.

  2. Why “bespoke”? Please… no! Stop with that word already, everybody. If you must, “custom” works, but… just don’t. Of course it’s one-of-a-kind, like most San Francisco homes.

  3. Here’s a place where you can really see the quality in the materials shine through, without being garish.
Whether or not you use the block, your kitchen help might. At the very least, it is a convenient place to cut your limes for that drink. You definitely don’t want to cut citrus on that Calacatta d’Oro.

  4. Well that was a short trip, bespoke darling, from authentic and frugally tasteful to obnoxious and 2k+ a sq ft. A very short trip.

  5. This is one of the Telegraph Terrace units, right? It’s beautifully done, but $6.25M? The owners of the other units must be ecstatic that their places might be worth something like that.

  6. I love it, but I’m a guy and this is mostly a masculine design sensibility. I predict that a wife will be making a lot of decorative changes.

  7. I could accept “bespoke” if they knew the new owner’s measurements, and had all of the cabinets, drawers, etc., sized and placed for perfectly ergonometric usability.

  8. I think they mean bespoke like,
“Somebody gonna pay 6mm for a condo kitchen with an oval island? ‘So crazy, should never be spoke of.”

  9. I find the Master Bedroom very feminine and peaceful. Think the unit is very chic and clean. Certainly the other Telegraph Terrace residents would not think their “original condition” units are worth what this unit is. I have seen this building, it is one of a kind in SF. What other building has these views with 7 terraces. Very European indeed.
