The seasonally adjusted annual pace of new single-family home sales in the U.S. rose to 433,000 in April, up 6.4 percent from the revised 407,000 pace as measured in March but 4.2 percent lower on a year-over-year basis. At the same time, the inventory of new single-family homes for sale in the U.S. is up 19.5 percent, year-over-year.
The pace of new single-family home sales as measured in April has averaged 656,000 over the past 50 years and peaked at 1,260,000 in 2005.
