  1. And San Franciscans say Los Angeles has tacky architecture. This facade is hysterical. Has anyone ever done a book of the bizarre residential architecture of the western part of the city?

  2. its probably a “Rousseau” home. they were the classy row houses out there compared to the austere Doelger houses
    stucco rulez!

  3. I wouldn’t use the word “tacky” to describe this house. “Tacky”, it seems to me, would apply if they hadn’t pulled off the style. They nailed it.
Now, it might be ridiculous to try to make your fairly modest suburban (it was the burbs at the time) home look like the gatehouse to a fabulous mansion lurking just over the next hill, but that criticism warrants a different term.

  4. On the “green” aspect, I also wouldn’t clamor for more, more, more just for the sake of more, more, more. There’s a style to the restrained, manicured, in a way miniaturized “yards” of the Avenues. Sure, this place could use something more, but the one down the block overdoes it. Look at it from the MapJack view.
Of course, more, more, more is preferable to the much more common none, none, none.
