Sitting on a 1.5-acre gated parcel atop the Oakland Hills in Hillcrest Estates, the remodeled 4,000-square-foot ‘Mid-Century Hacienda’ at 5630 Bacon Road has just hit the market listed for $2.4 million.
The five-bedroom home features multiple light-filled living rooms, an open kitchen with a casual dining area and adjacent formal dining room, and a master suite with a marble tiled bathroom and private balcony.
There’s a rather idyllic outdoor kitchen and covered patio.
And then there’s the indoor swimming pool and hot tub which open to the gardens and rear yard.
Did this start as a mid-century modern house that got turned into a “hacienda” or was it the other way around?
Seems an odd mix of styles.
Built in 1959 in a modern minimalist style it was transformed in 2007.
Lovely
This is what a Don Draper Corona commercial set would look like.
If someone had proposed this concept to me I’d have balked. but I think the results are actually remarkable.
you had me at hacienda
I notice that the cooktop includes no hood. Is this a normal practice? Seems like the absence of a hood would cause smoke to circulate around the home and cooking residue sent airborne to deposit on the surfaces and furniture of the adjacent rooms.
Probably has a fixed or pop-up down draft at the back. I’ve cooked on similar stoves. While not as efficient as a hood, they do a decent job and you avoid having a massive obstruction in the middle of what looks to be a beautiful and functional kitchen.
UPDATE: The sale of 5630 Bacon Road has closed escrow with a reported contract price of $2.95 million ($726 per square foot).
