Speaking of homes in Atherton, the nearly 11,000-square-foot “Modern Transitional Estate” at 33 Emilie Avenue has just been listed anew for $13.65 million having first been listed for $14.6 million four months ago.
Sitting on a .85-acre lot, the home features 7 bedrooms, 8.5 baths and a modern/contemporary interior.
If the television in the lower-level rec room isn’t large enough, there’s a theater behind.
And then there’s the decidedly modern stainless steel wine cellar with room for 1,500 bottles.
If I were a kid in that place, I would never do my homework.
As a furniture builder in a past life I was tasked to build a $20k desk for such kid using exotic woods. That’s when I quit and took up programming. It seemed more reasonable.
When I was much much younger, my family looked at numerous homes before settling in the current abode. We toured large homes in Hillsborough, Blackhawk, Orinda, etc. My family also toured elite private schools in the Bay Area where teens were driving BMWs back in the early 1980’s. My parents took a look at me and thought, “our child is arrogant and classist enough without external support and adulation.” And promptly took away any toys or delusions of grandeur I had.
I am glad I was able to secretly squirrel away some of my arrogance as an adult. But I can’t tell one kind of wood from another. $20K for a custom desk is excessive (not questioning ex-woodworker’s skills.)
Yes, thank god you were able to stay slightly arrogant. Kids drive new BMW’s to public schools in Danville, too.
