A proposal to construct a 16-story building with a 290-room hotel, three floors of office space, and ground floor retail at the corner of Shattuck Avenue and Center Street is expected to be submitted to the city of Berkeley tomorrow.

If the plans are approved, construction on the 180-foot-tall hotel development would commence in 2015 according to the Business Times.

  1. This is a perfect project for the downtown location. Which can only mean that it will be shot down by the political process.

  2. I spend time on this block every day, so I’ll be following this closely. My main concern at the moment is the loading dock front and parking garage entrance Shattuck, so might muck up the street scape and sidewalk. Otherwise, it’s a good start, and hopefully all five “taller” (2×180′, 3×120′) buildings allowed by the Downtown Berkeley plan will be proposed and built.
