A plugged-in reader reminds us that we’ve been remiss in noting that 2950 Vallejo will soon be the 2011 Decorator Showcase Home. Oh, and that it once served as refuge for “Princess Stephanie,” a Nazi spy who was eventually arrested down in Palo Alto.
On the market (but off the MLS) asking $25,000,000 in 2008, 2950 Vallejo was last seen seeking $20,000 a month as a rental before successfully being pitched to be Miss 2011.

Refuge for a Nazi spy? Makes sense, kind of looks like a bunker. $25M in 2008? My how the times have changed.
At a $25M purchase price, why set fire to $20K every month for rent? It’s just throwing money away!
Wow, $25 mil? I’m sure its beautiful inside but that is one ugly brick POS from the outside.
The Showcase home is now open. I went today… and it was practically deserted, which was kind of unusual. It’s definitely a more low key affair than showcase homes of the past. The house itself is surprisingly small. Certainly less than 6000 sq ft. The previous price tag looks ludicrous given the size of the home and that many of the systems hadn’t been updated (and for my money remain in need of modernization). The views are lovely, but not as dramatic as the 2300 and 2700 blocks of Broadway or even the 2200 block of Vallejo. It’s rare for these homes to come on the market, so take a visit if you’re so inclined. Be sure to check out the Basic Instinct house next door which is undergoing some repairs. Now wake me if it comes for sale!
Back on the market at 19.5 with Malin as the agent. Could be a game changer… We’ll see!
