Trinity Plaza: Digging for 1188 Mission (www.SocketSite.com)
If Trinity officials are correct in their estimate that it will take two years to finish the first phase of the new Trinity Plaza (1188 Mission), then the first tenants of Trinity Plaza might just be in their new homes before the end of 2009. For as a plugged-in tipster notes: “Digging has begun at 8th and Mission for the first phase of rental units at Trinity Plaza next to the Soma Grand.”

  1. I used to walk by Trinty Plaza twice a day and I’ll be glad when tear that place down. Even if the new buildings end up being a bit overwhelming, at least it will be a new eyesore rather then an old eyesore.

  2. Props to Chris Daly for making this happen. He can be an ass and a buffoon sometimes, but he’s not as wacky or incompetent as the Chronicle would have you believe. He put together an interesting alliance that got this project passed, to both the tenants’ and the developer’s satisfaction.

  3. ZachB-props for Daly ok
But this project would not be possible financially other than the fact that the landowner has owned this property outright and was able to give a lot
Don’t expect this to be repeated elsewhere unfortunately

  4. james–why didn’t they tear down fox plaza first? seriously? is your relationship with architecture SO strong that buildings must be demolished? it’s a good thing you don’t live somewhere like NY, or Paris, or London, you would just FREAK OUT! don’t worry about the 400+ units in fox plaza, “architecture” is much more important–or at least someones idea of what good architecture is good.

  5. As a result of Chris Daly, this project and its 1900 rental units were delayed nearly 4 years. Remember that fact when you’re trying to look for an apartment anytime soon.

  6. joeli, if you think fox plaza is architecture worth saving, i’d love to see how well you’ve decorated your apartment. elvis paintings in every room i take it?
    😉

  7. james–no elvis paintings, but I have a nelson marshmallow sofa, nelson pedestal table, eames dining table, bertoia chair, and other furniture from the 50’s and 60’s. I also have a copy of Tom Wolfe’s “From Bauhaus to Our House”, so I understand critique of Modern Architecture.
What I don’t understand is that it needs “worth saving”. What do you mean by that? That all of Fox Plaza’s occupants need to defend it to save their home because you think you are some sort of architecture critic?

  8. James–Yes, I made my comments there (the stupid, offensive sfist article.)
Just read “jasontk”‘s comments. He is more eloquent than you or I can ever dream to be, and sums it up the best.
    over and out.
