A tipster catches heavy equipment hard at work “on a creepily sloped and loamy looking site just east of Pemberton Stair” on Clayton at Corbett and wonders what’s going on.

If we’re not mistaken, that would be 1399 Clayton (just down the street from 1391), a lot which was approved for subdivision and construction of two 4,000 square foot three-story single-family homes. If we’re wrong please correct us, but regardless, who’s got the plans?

  1. “…and loamy looking site…”
Aw schist, it looks like crushed bedrock to me. It should be stable.
But yeah, I have respect for those members of Operators Union 3 who work those machines on tricky ground. It is quite an art. Though every once and a while someone screws up. I saw a crane collapse a few years ago. And my brother who works on big job sites has plenty of stories of wrecked equipment. One of the funnier stories was a guy who backed up a huge Cat D9 dozer over his own pickup. Oops !
These new places on Clayton are gonna have a guaranteed great view that will never be obstructed. Except by the fog.

  2. There is an underground stream there, so that water would come out onto Clayton in the winter. I remember during an El Nino year (1998, maybe) the retaining wall there collapsed from the flow of water. Hopefully this has been addressed with the new construction there.

  3. And just down the street from 1456 Clayton (1570 sq.ft.), which is coming soon to a courthouse near you thanks to a WaMu refi in July 2007. A NOTS was filed on April 28.
