120 Santa Ana Avenue
Like there’s any way we could resist the Colonial styled facade of 120 Santa Ana Avenue leading up to a long 4th of July weekend. But don’t worry, we’re not there quite yet…

  1. I’m not too familiar with the colonial style, do they usually have bay windows or is that just ‘colonial san francisco’?

  2. Also it is obvious they are not really trying to sell this place but just wasting everyone’s time. I mean not even ONE chopped pillow? Posers.

  3. This is a Colonial Revival style… not strictly “Colonial”. Therefore a 20th century interpretation of 18th and 19th century styles. From a website:
“The Colonial Revival style is based loosely on Federal and Georgian house styles, and a clear reaction against excessively elaborate Victorian Queen Anne architecture. Colonial Revival houses have many of these features:
    Symmetrical façade
    Rectangular
    2 to 3 stories
    Brick or wood siding
    Simple, classical detailing
    Gable roof
    Pillars and columns
    Multi-pane, double-hung windows with shutters
    Dormers
Temple-like entrance: porticos topped by pediment
Paneled doors with sidelights and topped with rectangular transoms or fanlights
    Center entry-hall floor plan
Living areas on the first floor and bedrooms on the upper floors
    Fireplaces
This house has a lot, though not all of those features.

  4. Bay windows are quite common on Colonial Revival houses. Stucco cladding and string courses are not. Curiously, one characteristic that is practically a requirement for the style, fake shutters, is almost never included on any of these lists.
