2046 Union Street

Sweaty Betty, the London-based retailer which is “famous for reversible yoga pants, statement prints, bum-sculpting leggings and technical fabrics…that take you from bar to barre,” has quietly filed an application to open up shop in Cow Hollow.

The proposed location at 2046 Union Street, which was formerly occupied by Nine West and is adjacent to Lorna Jane, across the street from Nike Women’s, and a block away from Lucy and Lululemon, would be the first Northern California outpost for the brand.

But as formula retail controls are in place for Union Street, and Sweaty Betty has far more than eleven locations worldwide, San Francisco’s Planning Commission will have to approve Betty’s application to open, as it did for Nike back in 2014 based on a recommendation from Planning Staff to “enhance the economic diversity of the neighborhood.”

  1. This will bring much needed upscale retail to Union Street, and also be a two way introduction b/w San Francisco and the world of overpriced, faddish yogawear shops (shoppes?)

    Open It.

    🙂

  2. Anything to fill the vacancies, but another women’s athletic apparel store? Union Street has an identity problem. With the opening of Equinox and Soul Cycle, these type of stores seem to be the only thing opening in the neighborhood. Likewise, how many perfume and scent shops does Fillmore St. need? Brick and mortar stores face a real problem and Union St. is going to continue to struggle.

I wish the following would happen: Sephora would shut down and become a Bi-Rite or another mini-grocery. American Apparel is floundering, so that shop could become a Walgreens. The defunct jewelry shops should be allowed to at least merge with the vacant stores next door to allow for larger locations that could accommodate a small restaurant. Is that restaurant ban still in place? Also, Fredericksen’s could move up a half block, somewhere. Finally, Union St. needs a great pizza and taco/Mexican place – something similar to Delfina’s or Nopalito. None of this will happen, of course.

    1. Tony’s Pizza is opening next to Brixton! Great Pizza Place check!

Beretta/Starbelly/Super Duper/Belga Owner Adriano Paganini is opening a Mexican restaurant next to Belga! Great Mexican Place check!

    2. Yes, because we need yet another Walgreens in the city. I’m sure Fredericksen’s would love to vacate its current home of many decades just to shake things up in Cow Hollow. This isn’t a seating chart for an upscale, formula retail party. BTW-Delfina pizza is overrated.
