The National Association of Realtors Pending Home Sales Index increased 1.7 percent from December to January.  The index is at its highest point since August 2013 and 8.4 percent higher than at the same time last year.

The Pending Home Sales index for the West increased 2.2 percent in January and is running 11.4 percent higher on a year-over-year basis.

And in terms of inventory, the number of homes listed for sale across the country was 8.7 percent lower in January as compared to the January before.
