24 Manzanita
From marijuana in July, to meth today, Laurel Heights is back in the news:

Tucked away in the affluent Laurel Heights neighborhood – just hundreds of feet from a playground – police discovered one of the only meth labs in The City, which shocked residents.

Police in San Francisco were not even searching for the lab when they stumbled upon it Wednesday on the lower level of a two-story residential flat located near the Laurel Hill Playground.

And before you go blaming some damn renters for the transgression, keep in mind one of those arrested (John Prato) shares the last name of the building’s long-time owner.

  1. I wonder how deep into the lab was the enterprise and will the entire structure need to be “superfunded?” I’ve seen a methlab removed before and they even haul away the dirt. That really sucks for the other owner.

  2. If the owner was a legit landlord and had the requisite insurance, then their policy should cover it, no? If, on the other hand, it was a bootleg landlord, somebody who was renting out what was financed and insured as an owner-occupied single family residence, then they’re going to get what they had coming to them for cutting corners. Karma and all that.

  3. lol at yawnee’s comment.
and i wonder, were residents “shocked” because this was “one of the only” meth labs in the City? Sounds like an untapped market. Either that or the police are asleep. The latter being easier to believe.
